Forensic Intensive Recovery Services

Dual Diagnosis Program

The Forensic Intensive Recovery Program (FIR) is part of a city-wide network of treatment programs serving adults with substance abuse problems who are released from the county jail system into the program as a condition of their probation. Interac's FIR program works with people with major mental illness in addition to substance abuse.

This program recognizes that neither mental illness nor substance abuse can be treated in a vacuum. Substance abuse exacerbates symptoms of mental illness; persons with untreated mental illness may lack the judgment and clear thinking necessary to get into and remain in recovery from substance abuse.

Through a wide array of therapeutic and psychoeducational groups and individual therapy, clients in the FIR program learn to manage their mental health symptoms, get off drugs and alcohol and learn how to live clean and sober lives. The program has a strong evening/weekend component, during which clients are visited by staff to assure they are taking their medications, attending 12-step meetings, and using their leisure time in a healthy way.

For further information, contact our Centralized Intake Unit at (215) 487-1330.
